Structure And Functions Of Protein

Proteins are the biomolecules which are abundant in nature and its creatures. Proteins are the organic molecule which is produced by the amino acids. We can say that protein is the long chain structure of the amino acid. According to the structure, proteins are divided into four categories, these are primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. These are based on the links of amino acids and twisting and coiling of the protein chain along the hydrogen bond. In the primary structure of the protein, the long chain of the amino acid is formed. This is a linear structure. In the secondary structure coiling and folding of the primary structure take place and give rise to the alpha helix and beta pleated structure.

In the tertiary structure, more coiling and folding of the secondary structure takes place this gives rise to the tertiary structure. Quaternary structure is governed by the more folding and the resulting structure is ball type and is known as globular. Hemoglobin is globular protein. Proteins are organic molecules as these are present in the living organisms. These are hormones which regulated the body function. Protein is responsible for the proper growth and development of the body. Protein is an integral part of our muscles, bones, nails, skin, and hair. We can obtain protein from different sources. Eggs, seafood, pulses, and meat are rich in protein. Soybean is the richest source of the protein. These enhance the growth and development of the body. There are multirole uses of the protein these are as follow:

Protein is used as the catalyst in some reaction in the form of the enzyme. These play a major role in breaking down of complex molecules in the body. The mainly catalytic process takes place in the digestive system. Thus proteins are potent catalysts. Protein gives strength and shape to the bones, muscles and skin tissues. There are some proteins which cause muscle movements and contraction in the muscle fibers. Proteins are the effective medium to transport oxygen to all parts of the body and this vital task is performed by the hemoglobin. Proteins act as the antibodies which strengthen the immune system. This is all about peptides. Protein is a polypeptide chain of the amino acids. Here amino acids are linked together by the peptide bonds. The amino acid has two groups one is basic amine terminal and other is an acidic group. These two groups when joined together they form the polypeptide chain of the amino acids.
